Description
This kit swaps the factory hood springs on a 1947–1954 Chevrolet or GMC Advance Design truck for gas struts. The struts damp the hood open and closed instead of fighting you, and the laser cut, precision formed brackets give the hood a solid mounting point at the firewall and along the hood edge.

Fitment notes
The kit is designed for factory hoods and has not been tested with aftermarket or fiberglass hoods. On a non-stock hood the strut strength may be too much or not enough.
Hood realignment may be required. If the truck has no factory hood springs or struts on it now, the back of the hood near the cowl will very likely pop up once the strut force is added, and the hinges and latch may need adjusting. It happens on trucks with factory springs as well, but rarely.

Not included
- Nothing further for a factory steel hood. The firewall brackets, hood brackets, struts, ball studs and all mounting hardware are in the kit.
- The factory hood springs come off during the install and are not reused.
- Any hinge and latch adjustment the hood needs afterwards. If the truck currently runs no springs or struts, expect the back of the hood to sit up until it is realigned.

Installation
The firewall brackets bolt straight to the factory hood spring holes with the supplied stainless button head hardware, and the ultra low profile hood bracket bolts keep the brackets from rubbing the fenders. The 5" hood bracket needs two 1/4" holes drilled in the hood edge: put the first 5.75" forward of the rear hood bumper rubber, and the second 5" on center from it toward the front of the truck. Mount the ball stud on the outside of the firewall bracket so the strut sits on the fender side.
Do not use the measurements shown in the install video. They are for the older kit, not the current 5" hood brackets. Plan on checking hood alignment afterward and adjusting the hinges or latch if the hood sits high at the cowl.

What comes in the hood strut kit?
Two firewall mounting brackets, two 5" hood mounting brackets, two heavy duty sealed bearing gas struts, four 5/16" ball studs and all the mounting hardware, including the ultra low profile hood mount bolts. Finish options are listed at the top of the page.
Do I have to drill?
Only the hood. The firewall brackets bolt to the factory hood spring holes, while each 5" hood bracket needs two 1/4" holes in the hood edge - the measurements are in the installation notes on this page. Do not use the measurements in the install video, which are for the older kit.
Will it work with a fibreglass or aftermarket hood?
The kit is designed around the factory hood and has not been tested on aftermarket or fibreglass hoods. On a lighter or heavier hood the strut force can be too much or not enough, so treat it as untested rather than confirmed.
Will my hood still line up afterwards?
Plan on checking it. If the truck has no factory hood springs, the back of the hood near the cowl may sit high once the strut force is added, and the hinges or latch will need adjusting.
How do I know it fits my truck?

The #1 issue with my kit is once the safety latch is unhooked the hood after being a couple inches open stalls, you then have to lift it a bit more to get it to slowly open itself all the way, dont know if the gas struts I received are a bit weak or that is normal. #2 the stainless brackets had some sharp edges, handle with care, otherwise a terrific kit thats simple to install looks 100% better than the stock springs, well designed- nice product. 1954 CHEVY Truck
