Description
This ABS headliner kit replaces the cardboard headliner in the cab of a 1947–1953 Chevy or GMC truck. The panels are molded ABS in black, and which kit you need depends on which cab your truck has.
Features
- Made from 1/16" ABS plastic to replace the factory cardboard.
- Black in colour with a haircell texture finish.
- Can be left exposed, painted or covered with fabric.
Choose your cab
- 1947 to early 1949 — comes with (4) ABS pieces.
- Unicorn cab — comes with its own kit. This cab falls between the early and late 1949 cabs. Its weatherstrip rubber trim is held by the newer slide-in retainer spot welded to the cab interior face, and its roof center trim is still the screw-in type, sitting closer to the front windshield than on the later years.
- Late 1949 to 1953 — comes with (2) ABS pieces.
Fitment notes
This kit does not include the center and rear metal bow strips.
The 1947 to early 1949 and late 1949 to 1953 cabs share the same identifying marks: a floating center trim that slides over the front panel with the rear panel sliding into the back of it, weather stripping in a welded channel around the door that slides into place with no screw fasteners, a center trim set further back in the cab, and no factory filler strips on the pillars between the windshield and door weather stripping. Some of these trucks still have center roof supports, some have none, and no center trim screws into them either way. The Unicorn cab is the one that differs — if that is what you have, order the Unicorn kit.
Not included
- The centre and rear metal bow strips.
- Paint, fabric or adhesive. The panels are black haircell ABS and can be left exposed, painted, or covered.
- Pick the kit that matches your cab: 1947 to early 1949 comes as four pieces, late 1949 to 1953 as two, and the Unicorn cab between them has its own kit.

Common questions
Are the metal bow strips included?
No. The kit does not include the centre and rear metal bow strips.
Can they be covered or painted?
Yes. They are 1/16" ABS in black with a haircell texture, and can be left exposed, painted or covered with fabric. If you are covering them, do the covering before the panel goes in the truck, not after.
How do I know it fits my truck?
This part is listed for 1947–1953 Chevy and GMC 3100, 3800 and Suburban. The full year, make and model list is in the Truck Compatibility tab on this page. If your truck has been modified, or you are between two of the year ranges we list, send us the year, make and model and we will confirm the fit before you order rather than after.
How long before it ships?
It is a stock item and generally ships within 1-3 business days. Carrier transit time is on top of that, and larger orders can arrive in more than one box on different days.
What if it is not right for the truck?
You have 30 days from delivery to request a return. The part needs to come back new, uninstalled and in its original packaging - once a part has been trimmed or drilled it cannot go back. Return shipping is at your cost, and we ask that returns come by Canada Post. Made-to-order, sale and clearance items are final sale. The full terms are on our returns page.
Can I install this myself?
It is designed for an at-home install. Read the fitment notes and the Installation tab on this page before you start for anything that needs drilling or trimming, and where an installation guide or video exists for the part it is linked there.

The shipping was fast and the fitment was great. I only had to trim it a little bit around the back of the door opening in the curved area. I even was able to install it by myself. Looks great

Had to trim a little above each door. I was able to install it myself. I put the middle strip on the rear panel then slid it over the front one. I removed the rubber weather stripping before I put it in place. I haven’t decided if
I’ll cover it or leave as is. A lot easier to install than the cardboard ones.

I gave it a 4/5 , as i have not had the chance to install it yet. I am in the reassembly stage of my build . ill cover this in a layer of headliner material and tweed before final installation. This product comes highly spoken of and has been since its introduction. It is lesser priced than its competition and is reported to be easier installation than the competitors. Im looking forward to completing the build with this quality product.

I got this headliner with the kick panels and the door panels. At the time, it was a combo deal. At any rate, these ABS panels are first rate. You can install them as is, or paint, or put fabric on them, whatever. I installed mine just like I received them, textured black. My truck is a rat rod, so I wanted the minimalist look. It is not hard to install, but it really should be done before the door windlace (the large rubber going around the door frame on the inside of the cab), because the headliner and factory center bar need to go behind it. It does take two people to install, only because of the size and the fact that you have to keep the floating center strip connected to at least one panel while installing. Holes for one visor bracket are cut, but not for the other (I can’t remember which one). But to locate the holes, I put some screws in where the bracket mounts, covered them with a tiny bit of white grease, and just touched the headliner to it. .Whalla! I also installed some sound deadener on the inside of the roof and made sure my wires were ran for the interior courtesy light before final install. This, along with the door panels and kick panels (both can be installed while blindfolded and one arm tied behind your back) make the interior look classy and clean. Very satisfied with this. (BTW, I have been bouncing around the idea of going with a brown worn, rustic leather interior lately. If I do, all I will do is remove all the panels, attach whatever leather I happen to get to them with glue, and be done. Haven’t decided if I want to do this yet though.)
