LS Fabrication's "Gate Saver" tailgate assist shock/strut for 1982-1993 Chevy S10 trucks adds a little modern luxury to your truck. The "Gate Saver" is an easy install addition to the tailgate of your 82-93 S10 truck.
The LS Fab Tailgate Assist for Chevy and GM trucks slows the tailgate opening action. This allows your tailgate to open freely without slamming after unlatching.
*This Gate Saver requires removal of the driver side metal tailgate strap, or you can install our 82-93 Tailgate Cables instead.
Our Tailgate Assist Shock/Strut kit includes:
- ✅ The dampener or tailgate shock strut
- ✅ 2x ball studs
- ✅ Jam nut for an easy install
- ✅ Easy to follow instructions for a quick installation
Note: box liners, tailgate caps, excessive body work, and/or anything adding weight to the tailgate will affect the rate of fall.

I originally seen this for the 2nd gen s10 and was determined to get this to work on my 1st gen. After my install, my tailgate just wasn’t coming done as slow as I had seen in many videos. I contacted the guys at ls fab and within a week they had a video posted with my specific truck detailing mounting locations. This was great.Also after speaking with Kris he had sent me out a replacement strut to further correct the issue.
