LS Fabrication's "Gate Saver" tailgate assist shock/strut for 1973-1987 GMC Chevy trucks adds a little modern luxury to your classic Squarebody.

The LS Fab "Gate Saver" slows the tailgate opening action, letting your tailgate open freely after unlatching. Now your tailgate can open, close, and latch like a brand new Chevy pickup.

Kit Includes:

  • ✅ The dampener
  • ✅ 2x ball studs
  • ✅ LS Fab stainless support bracket
  • ✅ Jam nut for an easy install
  • ✅ Works with tailgate cables on both sides of the tailgate

Minor trimming of the tailgate and an M8 tap are required for install. Removing your factory link arm will lessen the tailgate's ability to handle heavy loads.

Note: box liners, tailgate caps, excessive body work, or anything adding weight to the tailgate will affect the rate of fall.

    Works well. Easy to install. The device to install the anchor was confusing as it was not seen in the video but I figured it out after I drilled the hole a bit to large.
    I Also bought the cables so I had support on both sides and they where also easy to install and add a nice touch.

    When installing my 1974 C10, I shaved off half the head of the bolt at the base of the gate. If I didn’t, I would be shocked. If you forcefully close it, you may break some of it, so be careful. My impression after installation is that it feels great!
