Tailgate Saver Shock (Strut) – 67-72 GMC Chevy C10 Truck
LS Fabrications "Gate Saver" or Tailgate Assist Shock/Strut 1967-1972 GMC Chevy Truck adds a little bit of modern luxury to your classic C10 truck. The Gate saver works on your factory tailgate by removing one of the link bars. Also, it can work in addition to the 67-72 Tailgate Latch Kit.
The LS Fab "Gate Saver" slows the tailgate opening action allowing your tailgate to open freely after unlatching. You can now have a tailgate that opens, closes and latches like a brand new Chevy pickup.
Our Tailgate Assist Shock/Strut 1967-1972 GMC Chevy Truck kit includes:
- ✅ The dampener
- ✅ 2x balls studs
- ✅ Jam nut for an easy install.
- ✅ Works with tailgate cables on both sides
- ✅ For stock latches, an additional support bracket is also included.
*Minor Trimming of the tailgate and an M8 tap are required for install*
**Removing your factory link arm will lessen the ability of your tailgate to handle a lot of weight.**
NOTE: Box liners, tailgate caps, excessive body work, and / or anything adding weight to tailgate will affect the rate of fall on tailgate.

Worked great! Make sure u pick up the extra bracket for the upper mount. It spaces the strut out away from the truck bed to avoid clearance issues.

Haven’t installed due to instructions saying you have to notch the tailgate. Wish they would’ve stated that before purchase. Paint is too nice to do that to my truck. Then the aggressive e mail response sent to me when I asked a simple question.

Ive installed tre 5 easy latch. instructions regarding top mounting a bit vague for tailgate saver to tre 5 latch. unsure if tailgate cable will be able to stay or will be in conflict. seems like case by case – im willing to cut inner tailgate to keep both cables along with gate saver. Just seems like there could be better instructions for both this and tre 5 latches but overall very happy. Tre 5 latch system was great and no doubt tailgate saver will be good once it is in. I think better instructions would make install a lot quicker for customer but quality of parts seems good. . have not installed tailgate saver yet. install of parts from this company seems to equate to a lot of you tube searching to see how others have accomplished.
